Shane’s Blog too!

13 October, 2006

Hey if I’m going to promo Cyrus’ blog then Shane deserves one too.
Shane’s got some great things to say about mobile here in Australia. Although I don’t agree with all he’s got to say (and don’t have the bandwidth to respond most of the time – and he’s usually right anyway 😉 ) he’s certainly great at identifying a key topic and articulating his argument.

So be sure to add him to your feed reader!

Cyrus has a NextG-spot

12 October, 2006

Cyrus Allen (GM, Customer Experience at Telstra) has announced he has “a new blog with the aim of exploring how NextG technology might be impacting our lives“.

“In his first blog entry, mobile technology fiend Cyrus Allen shares his observations and confessions as a first-time father-to-be hooked on picture and video messaging… Yes, he videoed “the Bump”…”

Corny Cyrus, but often that’s how life is 🙂
And congratulations!

Chumby

2 September, 2006

I want my chumby:

Snip from the Chumby blog – Why we invented the Chumby:
“We’re hoping that the chumby will help reconcile real and Net lives for some people. We designed the chumby for all that Net life stuff that’s important, but not so important that you need to be fully-focused on your computer or hyper-thumbing your cellphone. It’s an attempt to try to integrate a lot of that Net life stuff into your real life. It’s meant to be passive. It’s “sort of” what’s going on in your Net life, with the occasional alert for when you do need to put your real life on hold and engage completely with your Net life (”She posted that about me?!?!?”). But, by occasionally providing the comfort of some passive and “continuous partial attention” to your Net life, it’s what allows you to reengage more fully with your real life. I don’t want to have to hear again, “Daddy, why are you still tippy-tapping on your computer? The puppet show is about to start!” Frankly, I don’t know if it will really accomplish this goal or not (maybe I’ll now be staring at my chumby in the living room and still missing the puppet show), but it’s an attempt.”

Rumors: Google Talk + Skype Interoperability

29 August, 2006

Om Malik reports that there is talk about Skype and GTalk interoperability
Now that would be cool!
I am a huge fan of IM both for personal and work use, consolidating Skype and GTalk would mean one less client application on my desktop (I currently use iChat, Skype, GTalk [through iChat] and Yahoo! IM).

YomoBlog

26 August, 2006

Dave Winer has created a little app, called YomoBlog, to blog from a mobile device. There is even an associated Yahoo! Group to help him iron out the issues.

I can’t use it at the moment as my Blackberry web browser is having issues connecting to the net for some reason…

Doc on River of News

26 August, 2006

Doc has a great little overview on the River of News stuff going on from Dave Winer. River of News is a different way of looking at simple news content on a mobile device. It’s basically like a news wire feed displayed on a mobile device. It’s good for mobile because it can be text only and is therefore quick and cheap to download and relatively easy to read on mobile.

Early Zune UI Review

19 August, 2006

“The big question being asked around these parts right now is whether Zune has any feature so compelling that it can really rival the iPod juggernaut. Right now, the feeling is that Microsoft may have gotten a few things closer to right than normal, but neither any individual part of the package nor the complete experience will truly rival the iPod’s super-simple, mainstream experience.”
