About the iPhone:
“There’s an old saying – stick to your knitting – and Apple is not a mobile phone manufacturer, that’s not their knitting.”
Ahhh, yeah, they weren’t an mp3 player maker either… Heard of the iPod? If you listen to Steve Jobs you’ll hear him talk about Apple’s key strength being making technology easier to use, not just computers.
“I think people overreacted to it – there was not a lot of tremendously new stuff if you think about it. It was maybe kind of cool on the touchscreen technology but touchscreen technology is another domain, so it’s only a matter of time before it went to the device.”
This quote suggests that Greg Winn (Operations Chief at Telstra), simply sees the iPhone as the sum total of it’s technologies rather than the importance of interaction and customer experience that differentiate it.
